JEE Advanced 2026 result will be declared on Sunday, 1 June 2026 at 10:00 AM IST by IIT Roorkee on jeeadv.ac.in. Within hours of the scorecard release, IIT Roorkee will publish the category-wise qualifying cutoff and the Common Rank List (CRL). Within 24 hours, JoSAA 2026 registration opens at josaa.nic.in on 2 June 2026 at 5:00 PM. If you are a JEE Advanced 2026 candidate, the next 96 hours are arguably the most important academic window of your life. This pillar guide walks you through every step.
JEE Advanced 2026 result: confirmed date, time, and portal
According to IIT Roorkee, the result releases at 10:00 AM IST on 1 June 2026. Candidates need three items to log in to cportal.jeeadv.ac.in: registration number (sent to your registered email at application time), date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY), and registered mobile number.
The scorecard PDF is the only official, printable proof of your performance. Take three printouts: one for JoSAA reporting, one for institute-level verification at your allotted college, one for personal records. It displays marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics across Paper 1 and Paper 2, aggregate total (out of 360), qualifying-status indicator, and (if qualified) your All India Rank (CRL) plus category rank.
What the JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff actually means
There are two distinct cutoffs, and you must clear both to be ranked.
Cutoff 1 – Subject-wise minimum marks
You must score at least the prescribed minimum marks in each subject (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) combined across Paper 1 and Paper 2. For JEE Advanced 2025, this was approximately 6/124 per subject for the General-AIR category.
Cutoff 2 – Aggregate minimum marks
You must score the prescribed aggregate total across all three subjects combined. For 2025 this was ~21-22% of the maximum aggregate for the General category. Reservation categories have proportionately lower cutoffs per the reservation policy on jeeadv.ac.in.
Clearing both cutoffs earns you a Common Rank List (CRL) rank. JoSAA seat allotment uses CRL with the applicable category seat pool, not a ‘category-only’ ranking.
How to read your scorecard correctly
- Qualification status – top of page. ‘Qualified’ means JoSAA/CSAB eligible. ‘Not Qualified’ still allows JEE Main-based admissions for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs via JoSAA, or wait for JEE Main 2027.
- CRL rank – the only rank that matters for IIT seat allotment.
- Category rank – informational; does not directly determine allotment.
- Subject-wise marks – useful for self-analysis. If Mathematics dragged your aggregate down, that informs choice filling (avoid Maths-heavy branches like Mathematics & Computing).
JEE Advanced 2026 result is OUT – the 7-day action plan
Day 1 (1 June): Download. Verify. Save.
Log in at 10:00 AM. Server load is extreme – refresh every 30-45 seconds, not every 5. Download the scorecard PDF, take three printouts, save a backup on Google Drive, email it to yourself.
Day 2 (2 June, 5:00 PM): JoSAA registration opens
Visit josaa.nic.in and complete registration using your JEE Advanced + JEE Main rolls. Do not wait till the last day. File ~80% of your final choices on Day 2, leaving 20% for refinement.
Days 3-5: Choice filling strategy
JoSAA allows unlimited choices in any order. The single most important rule: fill choices in strict order of personal preference, not ‘cutoff feasibility’. The JoSAA engine allocates the highest-preference choice your rank can satisfy. If IIT Madras CSE is choice #1 and IIT Bombay CSE is choice #2, and your rank can reach IIT Bombay CSE, you get IIT Bombay CSE – because Bombay was the only one your rank could reach. The engine never skips down to a lower preference.
Use the JoSAA opening-and-closing rank brochure (published on josaa.nic.in within 48 hours of registration) for 2023, 2024, 2025 closing-rank data.
Day 6 (Round 1 mock allotment)
JoSAA publishes a mock allotment based on choices filled till then. This is your reality check. If shocking, revise choice ordering before the lock deadline.
Day 7 (Round 1 lock + allotment)
Lock your final choice list. Round 1 seat allotment publishes 24-48 hours later. From there, the JoSAA cycle takes over: 6 rounds of allotment, fee payment, document upload, and online reporting at the allotted institute for some.
The IIT female supernumerary seat scheme – what 2026 looks like
Introduced in 2018, the Supernumerary Seats Scheme (SSS) targeted 20% female enrolment by 2026. The Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) report for 2025 shows women constituted 20.15% of total IIT seats allotted – a milestone hit but plateauing. Two seat pools: Gender-Neutral (80%) for all qualified candidates, and Female-Only (20%) supernumerary seats. Female candidates are automatically considered for both pools – no separate selection needed.
JEE Advanced vs JEE Main: what’s the difference?
- JEE Main 2026 rank: eligibility for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and the JEE Advanced exam itself.
- JEE Advanced 2026 rank: eligibility for the 23 IITs.
- JoSAA uses both ranks together. JEE Main rank for NIT/IIIT/GFTI allotment; JEE Advanced rank for IIT allotment. Both flow through the same JoSAA choice form.
Even if your JEE Advanced rank is modest, you may still secure a top NIT seat via JEE Main – provided you register for both qualifications in JoSAA.
If you are not satisfied with your JEE Advanced 2026 score
- Accept and join. Even an ‘average’ IIT seat – particularly core branches like Civil, Mechanical, Chemical at older IITs – opens excellent career pathways via M.Tech., MBA, or civil services downstream.
- NIT/IIIT route via JEE Main. A top-100 NIT CSE seat is often better than a tail-branch at a newer IIT.
- Drop a year and re-attempt JEE 2027. Only for candidates with realistic improvement headroom. JEE Advanced allows a maximum of two consecutive attempts – if 2026 was your second, 2027 is not eligible.
